Metal Detectors in NYC tourist attractions?

My friend, my advice, leave the knife at home because it will be confiscated by a security guard at either the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty. Once your knife is consficated, it will not be returned.

    Good luck

You won’t need a knife in NYC. It is the safest big city in the United States. It is truly the city that never sleeps so there are always people out and about and tons of police everywhere. You will perfectly safe, probably safer than in your own hometown, in Manhattan. Security at the Statue and ESB is just like it is in an airport. You remove your belt, shoes, jewelry, and change from your pocket and put it in a bin. It’s then run through an x-ray machine. You then walk through the metal detector thing.

Have a wonderful trip and be prepared to fall in love with a wonderful city! I’m soooo jealous :) )

Please visit somewhere else. You won’t like it in NYC. Trust me, if you are asking questions about carrying knives you should think about visiting somewhere else.

They will confiscate it, especially if it is concealed. If it is part of a leatherman tool attached to your belt…maybe. I prefer a fiberglass knife. undetectable. Don’t listen to those sheep who fall for that hype about safety. If it was so safe, then why all the metal detectors and screening precautions.

If you look like a tourist[cowboy hat, stare up at the skyscrapers, wear leather pants], you will be a target.

    NYC is safe.

    Don’t be ridiculous.

I’ve never, ever had an incident here, and I live in one of the “worst neighborhoods”.

You are going to a tourist area. You are going to be doing tourist things. Leave the knife, man.

If you’re truly worried, avoid quiet areas, especially industrial areas, at night.

We just went to the Empire State Building and you do have to go through medal detectors just like in an airport. My boyfriend had a knife on his key chain but it was pushed in so they didn’t notice and they didn’t confiscate it. However, if you bring a regular knife with you they will notice and confiscate it and not give it back when you leave. Leave your knife at home that day, you won’t need it for protection if that’s what you’re carrying it for. New York is not that bad.
