		<description>It depends on where you live.  In VA where I live, you can&#039;t metal detect in the state forests.  As far as I know, we the people own them, but that&#039;s the law.  With permission, you can on private property.</description>

		<description>Technically you need to go to your county government and purchase a platt book which shows all owners of property in the county.  If you do metal detect on private property (which is literally everywhere except sidewalks, roads, and government property) you can be charged with trespassing and would have to give back anything taken from their property...A good friend of mine metal detects all the time and this is how it has to be done if you want to do it legally...</description>

If you are, then you have every right to use metal detectors to find &quot;unknown objects.&quot; Only if you are determined to be on private property, would you have any difficulties.
